Meets with Peeps!

I had wanted to join a meetup group for a long time but never really found one that suited me. My interests were not leading to groups that were very active, had that many members or met too far away from me. However, earlier this year I discoverd the perfect group for me. The Central Bucks 20/30s is different than other groups, it is very democratic - any member can suggest or host an event and that allows for more variety and two events or more per week. Bowling, plays, pool, mini-golf, dueling piano bar, ice and roller skating, picnics, hiking, outings at resturants all over the area; there is bound to be an event that members would be interested in doing. I also joined the Southeastern PA Nerd Herd and went to two events as part of that group.

Check out the links below if you are interested in these groups or groups that meet in your part of the world.

T-Span and RAGE 4 AIDS posted!

After many long years, all the videos from my time at my high school's TV station have been posted online. Check them out on my Vimeo page. We have T-SPAN from the 1996-97 school year and we have the first RAGE 4 AIDS benefit concert in 10 parts.

Snow Days

Amateur weathercasters, New Year's resolutions, the latest movies for rent (in 1997), and an over-the-top ice hockey interview, all this and more in one of the classic episodes of my high school's television program, T-SPAN. I wrote and produced a snow report filmed in my parents' basement wearing a borrowed suit and tie. The most fun about it was, well it DID lead off the episode, you'll have to watch it and find out. Watch more episodes here.

Studio magic

The Absolute Zeros invited their fans to Cedar Street Studios in Port Richmond to be included as part of their live recording session. The studio was in a former casket factory so the building was retrofitted with air conditioning and new bathrooms. Since it was an open studio there were no dividers between the mixing board and the band. There were also plenty of extra instruments available to play on as well as some vintage keyboards and an electric organ but was not certain if they still worked. The Zeros played a short set, bebuting a new song. Three Flip cameras captured the visuals.

Sunshine Superman featuring acoustic bass and a singer from Italy performed next. People talked during their set which was not recorded but I still felt it was a little rude considering the venue.

Since it was close to the anniversary of 9/11 a large flag hung above the performance area as you can see below:

Party like a Hurricane

Where was I when the first hurricane in almost 50 years hit the Northeast? At my job. Was hoping I would be able to leave early but afterward I took a short drive into Philadelphia to attend my friend Karen's housewarming party. I felt fairly confident about dealing with the storm with the storm since I helped perpare my parents' basement and already asked Karen if I could stay over since I was not sure if I was going to be able to make it home afterward. Nor did I want to ride it out with them since I knew I couldn't sleep. That's how I deal with things now, it may requre some extra effort but I have better piece of mind. And I beat my fear of hurricanes, I'll still be wary when one comes near my part of the country but now I have a plan that I can use to protect myself, my family and the things that are really important.

Even though many people couldn't make it, it was still a nice party. I met Karen's new Guniea pigs, hung out with Rob and Mark who we used to work with. We watched the flashing outside which was not actually lightning but a transformer arcing. The power did go out for a few minutes but that was because a car hit a pole down the street. We had a new friend stop by from work. Watched a few YouTube videos and listened to the George Michael channel on Pandora. We met Karen's upstairs neighbors who seemed pretty nice and hung out and had a few drinks with us.
