Music
"I don't think anything can bring people together the way that music does. I think music is the most powerful force on earth." - Kenny Gamble
I'll admit it, I'm a pop music junkie. I listen to all types of music and absorb all I can about writing, performing and music production, even artists and types of music I'm not a big fan of. I love talking to people about music and learning about new music from the radio, perfomances on television, music videos, TV and movies, the Internet and good ol' word-of-mouth. Music is so amazing and it really does help bring people together.
Here, based on my own experiences, you can find tips for learning about new music as well as your favorite music and artists. I'll share my favorite artists, albums, songs and my influences as well as discuss the evolution of popular music and the changes and challenges technology and the Internet have brought about.
Pop music is amazing because artists don't have to be confined to one genre if they don't need to
As technology has changed, artists and the industry have changed with it. Artists, especially independent ones, are able to bypass the industry and produce their own music, showcase their music and talents and connect with more people than ever before. However, the flip side is that consumers are increasingly getting their music online one song at a time instead of whole albums and in some cases for free and the artists, writers and producers are not always getting paid for it. It is also harder to release music when they want since demos and even the finished songs can be leaked online before then.
It is so easy to learn about our favorite artists and songs. Radio stations have lists of the latest songs they played and many also have links to purchase them. We can hear complete songs online before deciding whether to purchase them and can also find out if it is worth it to buy a complete album.
